What is AI visibility?
AI visibility is how often, and how, your company is mentioned when someone asks an AI assistant about something you sell. In 2026 it builds on good SEO, but takes more.
Why it matters now
More buyers start their research in ChatGPT, Gemini or Google’s AI answers instead of a classic search. The answer is often a short list of three to five names.
If you’re not on the list, you’re rarely contacted, and it happens without showing up in your own numbers.
How AI assistants choose whom to recommend
When a question needs current information, the assistant searches the web and summarizes the pages it finds. Gemini and Google’s AI answers build on Google’s index, while ChatGPT and Perplexity use their own crawlers and search partners.
For product questions, assistants increasingly use structured product feeds with price, stock and attributes.
Finally, mentions carry weight: reviews, trade articles and forums where others name you make models more confident recommending you.
Five things you can do today
- Check that robots.txt allows AI crawlers such as OAI-SearchBot, Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot and Googlebot.
- Make sure important content is in the HTML, not only loaded with JavaScript.
- Add schema.org data for your company, products, prices and FAQ.
- Write pages that directly answer the questions your customers ask.
- Ask happy customers for reviews, and be present in your industry’s forums and media.
How to measure it
Pick 20–30 questions your customers realistically ask. Test them monthly in the main assistants and note whether and how you are mentioned. AI answers vary between runs, so the trend over months is what counts.
