How do you get recommended by ChatGPT?

ChatGPT recommends the companies it can find, understand and see others mention. You improve your chances by being visible in search engines, answering customer questions directly and being mentioned on sites AI assistants trust.

Where ChatGPT gets its answers

When a question needs current information, ChatGPT searches the web and summarises the pages it finds. So the answer depends on what is written about you online, not only on what the model learned in training.

That means you can influence the answer. You cannot buy a place in it, and no one can honestly guarantee a recommendation.

Five steps that improve your chances

  • Get indexed: check that robots.txt allows AI crawlers such as OAI-SearchBot, and sign up for both Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools.
  • Write one page per important customer question, with a direct answer in the first two sentences.
  • Make it clear what you sell, to whom and where: on your website, in schema.org data and in your Google Business Profile.
  • Get mentioned elsewhere: in trade media, industry portals, supplier overviews, on LinkedIn and in relevant forums.
  • Collect reviews on Google and Trustpilot. AI assistants use them when choosing between suppliers.

What does not work

  • Text written for machines instead of people.
  • Fake reviews and forum posts pretending to be customers. They get removed and damage your credibility.
  • A one-off effort. AI answers change, so visibility takes ongoing work.

How long does it take?

Technical fixes can show within weeks. Content and reputation build over 3–6 months.
